Janak Dulari Devi's life has been a testament to resilience and the pursuit of dignity. Born and raised in Adityapur, she was married at a very young age. Despite the challenges, she and her husband built a life together, welcoming a son and a daughter into their family.
However, life took a difficult turn when her husband passed away due to poor health while their children were still very young. To support and raise them, Janak started working in other people’s houses, doing cleaning and household chores. Her hard work paid off, as she eventually saw both her children married.
"Living here, everyone feels like family. It never feels as though I am living away from my family. I am very happy here."
— Janak Dulari Devi, Resident at FURIDAThe Pain of Abandonment
After her daughter moved in with her in-laws, Janak continued to live with her son and daughter-in-law. But the family bond she had worked so hard to maintain began to crumble. She faced abuse and eventually, she was thrown out of the house she had called home for years.
With nowhere else to go, Janak's journey led her to the doors of the Furida Old Age Home. "I had nowhere else to stay," she recalls, her voice steady but filled with the weight of her experiences. "For the past four years, this has been my home."
Finding Family Again
At FURIDA, Janak found more than just a roof over her head. She found a community that cared. "Here, I receive all the necessary facilities," she says. "Meals are provided on time, and medical care is available regularly. But most importantly, everyone here feels like family."
Today, Janak is an integral part of the FURIDA community. She no longer feels the sting of abandonment, as she is surrounded by people who value and respect her. Her story is a reminder that even in the face of great adversity, there is hope and the possibility of finding a new sense of belonging.
